MANGWATCH

French Guiana Mangrove Watch: from mangrove tree to coastal dynamics

Durée : 2014 - 2014
Programme : CNRS - Guyane
Portée : Internationale

The capability of French Guiana mangroves to cope with coastal changes is addressed. Our ambition is to continue sharing interdisciplinary experience and strengthening international cooperation through the setting up of a 'Mangrove Watch Station' (MWS). By year-end 2014, our objective is to write specifications for the standardization of both the MWS instrumentation and the measurement protocols of the mangrove forest structure. We think that this strategy may provide pivotal data for coastal studies, ecosystems conservation and a multitude of applied issues of ecosystems functioning and services. The project has possible extensions toward both overseas French territories and Brazil.
