Forest landscape restoration in the rural tropics – for biodiversity and people

Restoring landscapes, for example by strategic planting of trees, can provide opportunities to reduce climate risks for biodiversity, human health and food security whilst addressing land degradation. In this seminar, I will present the research of the TROPical landScapes lab, that is closing knowledge gaps on the opportunities but also challenges for forest landscape restoration in rural tropical landscapes. I will highlight evidence arising from the (1) Agrisys Tanzania project, on the benefits and costs from natural capital, (2) the CORRESTOR project, which builds on this evidence for planning wildlife corridor restoration, and (3) ongoing PhD research in Tanzania, Philippines and on Borneo. I will briefly mention how experience from previous work has influenced the new AgCars project on climate risks in food supply chains of the Kilombero Valley, Tanzania.
